An Android budget is made with a QWERTY keyboard

Alcatel is very clear about the OT-980’s purpose. This handset is intended for mass markets. It is affordable, thanks to the PS 99.95 pay-as-you go price at Carphone Warehouse.

It’s still a 3G handset, with Wi Fi and GPS. It is Alcatel’s flagship model, although it is not as close to the HTC Desire but the LG Optimus GT540.

Alcatel doesn’t stop at pushing the price barrier. Alcatel also has a new hardware design. This phone is a slider phone that features a QWERTY keyboard, which allows you to type to your heart’s desire.

RIM has recently released the BlackBerry Torch 9800 slider, and the Palm Pre Plus. This budget option, however, is in a different category.

Sliders can be a problem because they are big and heavy. The Alcatel OT-980 is a good example of this. It measures 15.9mm wide, which is quite thick according to modern standards.

The screen of the Alcatel OT-980 measures 60.4mm wide because of this girth. People with smaller hands may have trouble reaching the screen one handed.

The keyboard can get quite tall on this style of mobile. When the QWERTY option is enabled, the standard height increases to 112.5mm.

Alcatel has at most sorted out the weight and the phone doesn’t tip forwards while you type.

The black-and-silver design is very attractive. A silver band covers the edge. It is the thinnest at its top edge, and the longest at its bottom. This covers a significant portion of the sloped design.

Below the screen, you will find a home button in a unique shape. It’s also difficult to reach the buttons for Menu, Back, and End. To access the Android search function, you will need to tap the screen. This button does not have a physical location.

The screen looks lost in a front fascia that could accommodate a larger screen. The screen measures 2.8 inches and is 320×240 pixels. This will reduce costs.

It doesn’t have the highest screen resolution or sharpness and is more inaccurate and lumpy than the capacitive.

Side buttons are small, and all but one are empty. A volume knob, micro USB connector, and a 3.5mm headset connection are also available.
