American Express Bank provides different credit cards as per the varied individual requirements like travel, shopping, dining, entertainment, etc. Apart from these cards, American Express also provides “Charge Cards” that do not have any pre-spending limit. Credit Card Bill Payment is to be done every month after the bill generation which contains all the purchases made in the last month. The due date is set 21-25 days after the generation of bill so as to enjoy an interest free period of about 45-50 days.
Prerequisites while making American Express Credit Card Payment:
Below mentioned are the prerequisites that should be considered while making American Express Credit Card Payment:
- Payments can only be made from a bank account that is in the Primary cardholder’s name.
- Payments made to an Indian-issued Amex card that is held by an NRI must be made only through NRE/ NRO account that is in the Primary card member’s name.
- American Express shall not be liable for any process, nor provides any guarantees/ warranties for any payment made by a cardholder through a mode that does not appear on the American Express website or App.
Below mentioned are the different ways to make an American Express Credit Card Payment:
- NEFT
Cardholders can make credit card bill payments with the help of the NEFT facility and get their dues settled. Below mentioned are the steps for the same:
- Register the Amex credit card as a payee in the bank account using the following details:
- Payee Name: American Express
- Payee Account Number: Complete the 15-Digit card number (beginning with 37)
- Bank Name: Standard Chartered Bank
- Payee Account Type: Current
- IFSC Code: SCBL0036020
- Branch Address- Standard Chartered Bank, Narain Manzil, 23 Barakhamba Road, New Delhi 110001
- After the process of adding the payee gets completed, select the same and enter the amount to be paid.
- Proceed with Fund Transfer and authorize the transaction with the help of an OTP.
- The same would be credited in the next 24 hours.
Note: In the case of SCB online banking used to make payments via NEFT, there is no need to enter the IFSC Code. Select the option, “Transfer to another SCB Bank account” and continue to make the payment.
- UPI
Below mentioned are the steps to pay American Express credit card bill via UPI:
- Login to the UPI-enabled mobile banking app.
- Select “Fund Transfer”.
- And then select the “VPA option”.
- Enter VPA-AEBC<15-digit card number beginning with 37>@SC.
- Enter the amount to be paid.
- Proceed further by entering UPI Pin.
If the payment is initiated before 5 pm, the amount will be credited to the Amex credit card by the next day, provided that day is neither Sunday nor a Public Holiday.
Note:
- Subject to timely processing by the cardholder’s bank.
- A reference to weekends includes working days falling on either a Saturday or a Sunday of any given week as notified by the Reserve Bank of India or by any other relevant authority. A weekend, however, does not include any holiday as notified by the Bank or by any relevant authority.
- Online Payment
In the case of Internet Banking, cardholders are given the option to pay their bills via Bill Desk. Below mentioned are the steps for the same:
- Enter the 15-digit American Express Card Number.
- Re-enter the card number so as to avoid any mistakes.
- Enter the 10-digit mobile number and e-mail id.
- A payment confirmation will then be received on the mobile number and the e-mail id.
- Enter the amount of the bill to be paid.
- Select the bank account from which the bill is to be paid.
- It will redirect automatically to the cardholder’s internet banking portal.
- Login using the Customer ID and password to authenticate the transaction.
Also, American Express provides some other ways to make online payments via:
- Debit Card powered by RuPay
- Unified Payments Interface (UPI) (BHIM -UPI)
- Unified Payments Interface Quick Response Code (UPI QR Code) (BHIM-UPI QR Code)
The payment will then get credited within 1-2 business days subject to the processing time of the bank. This mode of bill payment allows cardholders to make payments from any place and at any time.
- Autopay/ NACH
Consumer Cards: By enrolling with Autopay mode, the amount due or minimum due amount will be auto-deducted by Amex every month (as specified in the enrolment form). The same would be deducted from the bank account nominated via the National Payment Corporation of India’s National Automated Clearing House.
- Online Enrolment: Cardholders can apply for the Autopay option to get their credit card bills paid on monthly basis with the help of the Online Enrolment Form. This process normally takes 5 business days to get completed.
Or
- Paper-based form: Choose the form to enroll for Autopay on the type of American Express card based on the card that a cardholder has i.e. Charge Card Autopay Enrolment Form or Credit Card Autopay Enrolment Form. This process normally takes 3-4 weeks.
Cancellation:
The cancellation process may take 5-6 business days to get completed. Payment for the already generated statement will still be auto-debited (unless already paid).
Corporate card members
Corporate card members can enroll for Autopay from their bank account and get the card account credited with the amount due in the monthly statement through the NACH option introduced by NPCI.
- Courier
Cardholders are required to draw a cheque/ draft in the favour of “AEBC Card No. <15-digit card number starting with 37>” for the amount that is to be paid and shall be sent via courier to the below-mentioned address:

Note: the payment would get credited to the card account when the cheque/ draft gets cleared from the payee bank.
- Drop boxes
Amex has provided drop box options at several locations. Cardholders can draw a cheque/ draft in the same way as mentioned above in the case of a courier and drop the same in the nearest drop box. Before dropping the same, cardholders must check for Amex stickers on the Standard Chartered Drop Boxes. Below mentioned is the address for dropping the cheque/ draft:

The cheque/ draft can also be dropped at the nearest American Express Drop Box. But the cash payment shall not be dropped in the same drop box.
