How to use VRChat on Oculus Quest 2 and Quest 3

Virtual worlds that you can explore completely from your computer

This article will explain how VRChat works on the Oculus Quest 2 and Quest 2.

What is VRChat for Quest and How Does It Work?

VRChat is a multiplayer-free VR game that is built around social interaction. However, you can also use it on a computer without the virtual reality component. Users can upload avatars and worlds to the basic game. VRChat For Quest is identical to the original VRChat PC. Quest players can interact directly with PC players. However, there are limitations.

NOTE:VRChat for Quest introduced PC worlds, avatars, and Quest worlds. Avatars and worlds created for PC users are often limited or impossible to use and can prove costly on high-end computers. Quest worlds, avatars, and the Quest 2 have smaller file sizes and other limitations.

Quest players can visit both PC worlds as well as Quest worlds. Quest users cannot go to Quest worlds but can use Quest avatars. Quest players and PC players can interact in Quest worlds that are either Quest-specific or specifically designed for PC. Some PC assets can also be Quest assets. This allows PC players to have a richer experience while still being able to interact with Quest players.

You can link the Quest or Quest 2 with VR-ready computers to play full VR chat.

How to play VRChat on Quest or Quest 2

VRChat works on Quest 2 and Quest 2 just like it does on PC. The only difference is that you cannot visit PC-only worlds, or use PC-only avatars. You can interact with other PC players, have the same interface, and use the same controls.

We’ll walk you through the basics of the game and show you how to create a Quest avatar. These steps don’t have all to be followed, but they will help you get started with the game.

  1. If you don’t have it, search for VRChat on the Quest Store and download it. It is a free download.
  2. Start VRChat.
  3. Log in with a VRChat account or Oculus account.
  4. Choose your avatar to start the setup process.
  5. If you wish to swap avatars, go to the beginning area and approach an avatar stand.
  6. Select a Quest-compatible avatar. Quest-compatible avatars will be marked with a blue or green PC/Quest icon.
  7. Open the menu to search for an avatar that you like.
  8. Type avatar to find avatar worlds
  9. Choose a place and travel there.
  10. You may encounter players that look like floating robots while playing. These players may be using Quest-incompatible avatars. You will see the floating robot instead.
  11. Find an avatar that you like.
  12. Select the appropriate avatar from the blue and green PC/Quest icons and choose it to swap.
  13. Once you are happy with your avatar, you can open the menu again to search for another world or return home.
  14. The Quest controllers allow you to make some gestures with your thumb and only limited hand-tracking. Begin by placing your thumb on the buttons of the controller. This will cause your avatar to clench its fist. You can open VR by releasing your hand so that you don’t touch any buttons.
  15. Hold the controller in your index finger until it reaches point.
  16. To give the peace sign, grasp the controller using your middle and index fingers.
  17. To make finger guns, extend your index finger and lift the thumb from the buttons on your face.
  18. Now you can interact with other people. If you’re annoyed by someone, you can mute them. You can also mute yourself if it’s not your preference.

What are the limitations of VRChat Quest?

VRChat on Quest has two major limitations. You can’t view avatars and you can’t visit worlds that haven’t been optimized for Quest. It is not possible to visit or use an avatar or world if it doesn’t bear the PC/Quest logo.

A player using a PC-only avatar will look like a floating robot, with no legs. They’ll also have a small logo of the PC on their chest. While you can still interact with them and talk to them, their avatar won’t be visible.

You’ll see the Quest version when you visit a PC/Quest World. You’ll typically see more detailed models, textures, better particle effects and more for PC players, while the basic version of this world will be displayed to you. You can still see the basics and communicate with PC players, even though your world may look slightly different.

The Quest version of the game has less visual detail than the PC version. Shadows are either less or not present, models are simpler, textures are more difficult, and shadows are less detailed. The game runs well, despite having low specs. In some cases, it runs better than the PC version on lower-end hardware.

How to play the PC Version on Oculus Quest?
