Netflix on Echo Show (All Versions in 60 Seconds or Less)

You couldn’t access Netflix reliably on your Amazon Echo before December 2020.

There were some hacks that you could try, such as using the Echo’s Silk browser for Netflix and then trying to log into that way. However, they weren’t reliable and didn’t work for me.

You don’t have to rely on hacks anymore. In 2021, Amazon officially added Netflix on the Echo Show!

Netflix on Echo Show

All Echo Show devices have Netflix installed automatically as of January 2021. You don’t even need to download anything! To connect your Echo Show with Netflix, simply say “Alexa, open Netflix”, then enter your account details, and sign in. You now have Netflix on Echo Show

This update ensured that all Echo Show versions worked with Netflix. Netflix is now available for Echo Shows of all types!

Here’s a list of compatible Netflix devices:

  • Echo Show (1st gen and 2nd generation)
  • Echo Show 3 (1st gen and 2nd generation)
  • Echo Show 5 (1st gen and 2nd generation)
  • Echo Show 10 (sometimes referred to as 3rd generation)

Setting Up Netflix

Amazon offers two ways to access Netflix from your Echo Show device:

The easiest option for me is the first. Start by saying “Alexa. Open Netflix “.” Your device will then open Netflix Strong> and take you to the member login screen.

Simply add your Netflix account email address or phone number, and click Sign in.

That’s it, you’re in!

Another option is to manually open the Netflix app on your Echo Show. Start on the Echo Show’s home screen, swipe left and you will be able to do this.

A menu bar should include “Video”. Click on Video.

There will be several video-related apps, so choose Netflix. After you click the button, the Netflix app will open to your login screen.

Sign in by entering your Netflix account details

It is a bit annoying to have to enter my Netflix account details on the Echo Show. It’s not always an enjoyable experience to type on the screen.

It would have been much better if Amazon offered a way for you to sync your Netflix account directly from your smartphone with the Alexa app. Although I’m sure there are many complexities involved in making this happen, a man can dream!

The good news? You don’t need to log in again for either of the methods to login to Netflix.

You should already be familiar with the interface of Netflix on Echo Show. The layout of Netflix on the Echo Show is almost identical, except for the “toolbar” that runs across the top.

You’ll see the standard categories such as “Popular on Netflix”, and “Trending Right” when you land on the Netflix homepage.

To explore all shows/movies in a particular category, simply swipe your finger.

The toolbar at top contains TV Shows, Movies and Recently Added. If you are looking for a particular title, click on the magnifying glass at top right.

You can click on a title to pause it or slide the bar to fast forward, rewind or rewind it. Subtitles can also be turned on by clicking on the screen.

Voice-activated commands

Alexa’s great feature is its ability to be completely hands-free whenever you like.

It’s easy to master the commands once you have mastered them.

If you want to watch Stranger Things, just say “Alexa, play Stranger Things on Netflix”. The Echo Show will automatically find that title and play it from the place you left.

You can say “Alexa, show me comedy on Netflix” if you don’t know the exact title. The Echo Show will bring up Netflix’s comedy category and allow you to browse all of the options.

After you have selected your movie/show and it is playing, you can use commands such as “Alexa pause” or “Alexa rewind 30 seconds”.

After a long wait, Amazon finally added Netflix to its Echo Show devices in 2021.
It is simple to access and comes installed automatically. Just say “Alexa, Open Netflix”, then log in to your account using your Netflix password and email address.
It is up to you to decide whether you want to browse Netflix directly from the Echo Show, or whether you prefer to use voice-commands for your show/movie.
It’s wonderful to see Amazon listening to customers, even though this was a little late. The Echo Show is just one more reason why you should love it!
